When should we attend MumDad Antenatal Classes?

Antenatal classes can be attended anytime from 28 weeks of pregnancy onwards.

What is the difference between NCT classes and MumDad Antenatal Classes?

NCT courses can vary greatly in content, style of delivery, size of venue, length of course and focus on men.

· Length: MumDad Antenatal Classes typically last between 10 hours (Babymoon) and 20 hours (Comprehensive antenatal).  There is time for questions, discussing topics as they arise and comprehensive coverage of labour and birth. NCT classes vary in length depending upon the facilitator so you may not have sufficient time for questions.

· Male & female facilitators: Fathers are specifically addressed in MumDad Antenatal Classes meaning that couples are fully involved in the birth of their baby. We understand that all NCT classes are led by female instructors.

· Style of delivery: As well as providing vital information, our courses are designed to be fun and enjoyable. We believe that our style of delivery (e.g. catering for different learning styles and interactive elements) leads to effective learning and hence clients leave our courses with a toolkit of practical skills to enhance their experience of birth and early parenthood.

· Venue: MumDad Antenatal Classes are delivered in a spacious, well lit, warm venue which is free from any pet hair.

MumDad Antenatal Classes are run independently of the NCT. We do encourage membership of the NCT as a way to meet and socialise with other parents and benefit from localised branch information such as family days out, coffee mornings and NCT Nearly New Sales.

What is the difference between NHS and MumDad Antenatal Classes?

· Length: Typically NHS classes are for approx 4 hours so MumDad Antenatal Classes are significantly longer. Hence we are able to deal with questions and topics in more detail.

· Number of participants: Courses are also much smaller than NHS courses—we have placed a limit of 6 couples per course, giving more chance to form friendships that last.

· Delivery style -  NHS classes are typically led by midwives and are delivered in lecture style. Midwives are experts in their field but are not normally trained to facilitate.

· Content - NHS classes are specifically focused on labour, whereas MumDad Antenatal Classes also cover pregnancy issues noted before labour and postnatal topics to give practical parenting hints and tips.

How many other couples will be on the course?

Places are limited to 6 couples per course in order to ensure that everyone will have sufficient opportunity to ask questions but also to benefit from the social aspect of the course.

What should I wear and should I bring anything?

Loose, comfortable clothing should be worn (trousers are preferable to skirts). Please bring along anything to make you more comfortable, e.g. pillows / cushions
